Iraq accuses Iran of explosion which killed four civilians in Baghdad
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 3/23/2000

Four persons were killed and another 38 wounded in an attack by mortar shells on a populated building in Baghdad on Tuesday evening. Iraq accused Iran of being behind the attack.

A source at the Iraqi security department said on Wednesday that six mortar shells were fired by hirelings of the Iranian government against intensively-populated civilian areas in the city of Baghdad on Tuesday evening, resulting in the deaths of four citizens-- including one Iraqi and three Palestinians-- and the wounding of another 38. Children, women and elderly persons were among the wounded who were admitted to nearby hospitals.

The Iraqi source continued that the mortars precisely hit the targeted area where Iraqi citizens live, but did not identify the targeted area exactly or the timing of the attack. The source said the specialized sides found an Iranian artillery of 60 mm caliber with two bombs that had not exploded yet in the area.
