Israeli justice minister admits to violations of human rights
Regional-Israel, Politics, 3/23/2000
Israeli Justice Minister Yossi Beilin expressed his sorrow for Israel's attitude toward human rights in the past.
He said before the human rights committee affiliated to the U.N. that Israel had a defensive attitude and it has not done enough to help others. Israel was mistaken in ignoring international criticism of its record in the human rights field in the occupied lands, he said.
Beilin also undertook correcting the positions in the future, adding that the Foreign Ministry become an blind defendant of Israeli acts instead of proving that it wants to exert more efforts to help the others.
