Baghdad preparing for parliamentary elections
Iraq, Politics, 3/23/2000
Iraq is getting ready for the legislative elections that will be held on March 27 in which 522 candidates are competing to occupy 220 seats for four-year terms.
Candidates for the Baath Party are running under the slogan "Elect candidates of the party," while the independent candidates' slogan is "Elect your candidate."
The candidates are reviewing their national contributions to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's "Kadisia" and the "Mother of Battles" to defend and serve Iraq, while Iraqi television displays bits of information about the candidates' lives and photos from the symposiums in which they have participated.
The number of the candidates to occupy the seats of the Nations Council (parliament) in its fifth session reached 522, including 25 women.
