King Mohammed congratulates Senegal's president-elect
Morocco-Senegal, Politics, 3/21/2000

King Mohammed VI has sent a message of congratulations to Abdoulay Wade following his election as President of Senegal and renewed determination to spare no effort to consolidate bilateral cooperation.

The king congratulated the president-elect for the token of trust evidenced by the Senegalese people and hailed "the spirit of sincere brotherhood that has for times immemorial bound the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples" and that "derives its strength from the shared religious and cultural values."

"Thanks to this very brotherhood and these very values, our two countries have always had converging standpoints on issues of fundamental interest," the royal message stated.

The sovereign voiced determination to consolidate with the new Senegalese leader "the gains of the long and acting brotherhood" and "to spare no effort to upgrade our already fruitful cooperation to higher and more ambitious levels."
