Iraq accuses UN sanctions committee of obstructing medication contracts for chronic diseases
Iraq-UN, Health, 3/21/2000
Iraq accused the UN Sanctions Committee "661 committee" of obstructing contracts of medication contracts and medical requirements especially these of serious and chronic diseases.
Iraqi Health Minister Omid Medhat Mubarak said in press statements yesterday that his country is suffering from a severe lack of medications for heart problems, diabetes and benign tumors because the US and British delegates deliberately halted the contracts Iraq signed in the framework of the oil-for-food program.
He said the boycotts led to an increase in the average number of deaths, adding that his country received only 4% of the medication contracts from the 6th stage of the oil-for-food program, which are of 330 million dollars.
