Paper sees US gesture towards Iran as against Iraq
Iraq-Iran-USA, Politics, 3/21/2000

The Iraqi paper Babel on Monday warned Iran against investing its closeness with the US in order to play with fire against Iraq.

In the first Iraqi press commentary on this matter, the paper questioned whether reducing the US sanctions imposed on Iran came coincidentally with the escalation of the Iranian military provocation against Iraq, asserting that statements made by US Secretary of state Madeleine Albright seems to be an encouragement for Tehran to expand its aggressions against Iraq.

The paper added that the recent US closeness is a sort of "civil marriage" and the beginning of a "honeymoon" and that the Iranian pistachios, caviar and carpeting, in exchange for US cereals and medicines will be the gifts of the wedding.

The paper asserted that increasing the ceiling of the Iranian oil production will be the "postponed gift" which will be paid a short time after the two sides determine not to get divorced in the future.
