Al-Assad to new government: Forge ahead with the responsibility and tasks assigned to you
Syria, Politics, 3/21/2000
The new Syrian government chaired by Muhammad Mustafa Miro was sworn in before President Hafez al-Assad on Monday at the Damascus al-Rawda Palace.
The oath is as follows: "I swear by Gold Almighty to sincerely keep the people's democratic republican system and to honor the constitution and the laws, to serve the interests of people and the safety of the homeland and to work to achieve the directives of the Arab nation of unity freedom and socialism."
After the oath-taking ceremony, President al-Assad talked to the premier and to members of the new government, expressing best wishes for their success in carrying out the very important tasks assigned to them amid the current conditions through which the country passes.
President al-Assad said the formation of the Cabinet was made following a precise study of the capabilities and qualities in those who can be entrusted and have the ability to commit themselves to faithfulness in what would qualify them to perform standing tasks. "We hope you will be, in practice, worthy to live up to the confidence entrusted in you. I hope the new ministers will sincerely and honestly shoulder their responsibilities and to make use of the experience of these who preceded them in the performance and to direct their attention forward. I think that you have all potentials and capabilities which if coupled with commitment and care for the public interest and the interest of the homeland, will ensure your success in the work and in achieving what our peoples aspire for what we need in the current conditions and to prepare for what we do aspire for in the future" the president said.
Al-Assad addressed the ministers saying: "Do not be afraid of the responsibility and withstanding the tasks assigned to you, rather have a confidence in yourselves and be sincere to your people. Let's proceed forward in all fields; the law is with you, I am working with you and backing you, and we have to give all what we do have."
