International forum on Islam and democracy starts today in Algeria
Regional, Politics, 3/20/2000

The international forum concerning Islam and democracy starts today in Algeria and is to last for three days.

The works will focus on two main points. The first is concerning the political side of democracy and will tackle research and studies to be delivered by Arab and foreign researchers and specialists from Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, France, Switzerland and the USA.

The second main point tackles the social effect of consultation in Islam regarding which scientists and heralds from the Islamic world from Azhar and the Islamic universities in the Arab east will comment.

Official sources in the Algerian supreme Islamic council said the forum aims at showing the correct concept of Islam through clarifying the modern concept of democracy in light of Islam and concluding close concepts between consultation and democracy.
