Beirut hosts FAO meeting on agriculture in Middle East
Regional-Lebanon, Agriculture, 3/20/2000
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) holds its 25th ministerial regional conference for the Middle East on March 23-24 in Beirut.
The three-day conference, which is preceded by a meeting of experts today, will discuss the follow up of the World Food Summit (WFS), which was held in 1996 in Rome, and the action program adopted by the summit.
Participants will also formulate the recommendations for the next meeting due in 2001 in Rome and will set a strategy for a sustainable agricultural development in the Middle East by examining the general situation of agriculture in the region.
A similar FAO conference for Africa was held in Yaounde, Cameroon, last February.
