Paris club cancels Mauritania's $80 million debt

The informal Paris Club of donor countries meeting last week in the French capital agreed to cancel some $80 million of Mauritania's external debt, Africa Number One Radio monitored in Paris reported. The radio said the cancellation covers 90 percent of debt service charges that the West African country owed the donor nations.
The debt relief came in the wake of donor satisfaction with Mauritania's economic reform efforts, it added.
