Shiite opposition detained in Bahrain
Bahrain, Politics, 3/20/2000
The Bahraini authorities have detained Abdul Wahab Hussein, one of the Shiite opposition leaders, just a few hours after his release on Saturday, after he had been jailed for four years.
On Friday the Manama authorities released Hussein after his lawyers submitted an appeal to the state security court calling for his release, because he was jailed for a period of reserve "suspension" limited to three years.
Hussein was arrested on January 14, 1996 together with seven other Shiite leaders, including Sheikh Abdul Amir al-Jamri who was pardoned by the ruler of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al-Khalifa, in July as he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment under charges of provoking acts of violence.
