Somali national reconciliation conference in Djibouti
Somalia-Djibouti-International, Politics, 3/20/2000

Some 460 Somalis representing 92 local administrations in Somalia will meet on April 20 in Djibouti with representatives of the Organization of African Unity, the Arab League, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the UN, the European Union and the US in a Somali national reconciliation conference which will last for two weeks. The participants in this meeting will discuss means of establishing peace in Somalia.

Djibouti's ambassador in Cairo, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, said that the conference will choose 140 members for the legislative council which will then be moved to Mogadishu to elect the speaker of the parliament in July and then appoint the ministers.

He stated that his country had proposed to convene an international conference in July to set up a fund supervised by the UN aimed at raising funds for rebuilding Somalia.
