Damascus radio commentary on Israeli tactics
Syria-Israel, Politics, 3/18/2000

Damascus radio said on Saturday that Israel by marketing for the redeployment of its forces in south Lebanon and its attempt to create a deceptive impression that Syria and Lebanon oppose and didn't want this withdrawal, wanted to create a new kind of misguiding as to efface Israeli premier Ehud Barak's anti-peace practices.

"The withdrawal whatever was its size is a victory for Lebanon,Syria and for the resistance. The one who followed the situation would know that any withdrawal expressed Israel's impasse because of the material and human causalities in addition to the security and political obsessions on the Israeli arena," added the radio.

The radio said "Israel by redeployment is searching for new pretexts as to escalate its aggression. The Israeli onslaught and threats would not open the door before negotiations and such mentality proved with tangible evidence that Israel didn't learn from the lessons of the near and far past that Syria and Lebanon would not subjugate to threats."

It is better for Israel to withdraw completely from the occupied Golan Heights and south Lebanon and by that the region would realize stability amidst the just and comprehensive peace instead of such "torpedo" withdrawal which would leave the region in a tense, confused and grave situation," the radio concluded.
