Study tackles establishing joint market for North African states
North Africa, Economics, 3/18/2000
Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco are examining establishing a joint market for the North African states after the success of the COMESA experiment, Yamani Falfa, head of the Egyptian business council, said.
He added that calling for the establishment of this market comes due to having many successful components like the countries' location on the Mediterranean Sea coast, which facilitates commercial exchange and transportation among them and the external markets.
He said that another motivation is the great similarity in the economic policies applied and the success of the free trade exchange zone which increased the volume of the bilateral exchange between Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco by 30% which contributes to the quickness of establishing this joint market.
