Spanish premier to visit Morocco soon
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 3/17/2000
Spanish prime minister-elect, Jose-Maria Aznar, will visit Morocco in the coming weeks, said foreign minister Abel Matutes.
The head of the Spanish diplomacy, who announced he will be leaving soon the political scene for health reasons, said Spain is looking forward to a visit by king Mohammed VI of Morocco, adding the royal private visit to Spain was a message in the way of consolidating ever-improving cooperation and understanding between the two countries.
Matutes, whose popular party "PP" won last Sunday's legislative elections, extended fraternal feelings to Moroccans and said the popular party's victory implies the continuation of Spain's policy to develop cooperation with Morocco. Although he acknowledged the existence of some divergences resulting from rich bilateral relationships, he said the two countries have the capacity to overcome or prevent divergences. He added that Spain's external policy will not change after the new government is appointed, because the same political party will be ruling.
