Ben Ali urges establishment of international fund for poverty and disasters
Tunisia-Regional-International, Economics, 3/15/2000

Tunisia started executive steps for establishing an international fund for solidarity against poverty and disasters according to initiative of Tunisian President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.

Tunisian Foreign Minister Habib Ben Yahia said that the Arab states such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait and Oman agreed to support this Tunisian initiative, adding that the coming step is intensifying the Tunisian efforts in the European, US and Asian circles to enhance establishing this international fund to confront the disasters and poverty.

The effort is also aimed at protecting the people of the third world from risks and the impact posed by economic reform policies that most of these countries are applying to enhance their competitiveness inside the international economy.
