Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday received a message from Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali pertaining to developments of the Middle East peace process and current Arab conditions. The message was conveyed by Tunisian Foreign Minister Habib Ben Yahia during his meeting with the Egyptian president in Cairo on Monday. Go

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa is presenting today a detailed report to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak concerning the results of the Arab foreign ministers' council and the intensive consultations as well as communications which he held with his Arab foreign minister counterparts on the margin of this session's works. Osama El-Baz, political advisor to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stated that the Egyptian - US summit between President Mubarak and US President Bill Clinton on 28 March in Washington will focus on many bilateral and regional issues, saying in press declarations that the peace process comes at the top of those issues as well as US - Egyptian joint work issues in and "the distinguished bilateral relations through which we seek supporting the commercial relations and the technological cooperation." The United Arab Emirates will participate in the Baghdad International Fair that will be held in November for the third consecutive year. A statement issued by the trade and industry chamber in Dubai said that 30 companies and corporations will participate in the wing specified for the UAE, adding that Iraq is considered one of the promising markets and that re-exports to Iraq are taking place in the frame work of the current rules according to the oil-for-food agreement. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will on June 17 pay an official visit to France which will last for four days. This is the first visit for an Algerian president to France in 15 years. The visit will constitute a turning point on the level of bilateral relations. Go

Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Mostafa El-Feki, a member of the Egyptian delegation that participated in meetings of the Arab League council, said the decisions issued in this session concerning supporting Lebanon were clear. He said Egypt performed an effective and clear role through supporting the Lebanese point of view and stance even though Egypt has a different perception regarding the anticipated unilateral Israeli withdrawal in coming July, adding that Egypt believes that any withdrawal from any part of Arab land is something that we must welcome. Israeli warplanes on Monday carried out half an hour air raid against the front positions of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command in the western Bekaa and dropped several missiles and bombs. A statement by the front said that the Israeli planes were fired on intensively by the anti-aircraft missiles of the fighters of these positions. Go

Damascus Radio doubted yesterday Israel's intentions regarding carrying out UN Security Council resolution 425 concerning an unconditioned withdrawal from south Lebanon, saying that Israel wants to use its withdrawal from south Lebanon as a cover to achieve goals that are no longer hidden, as Israeli Prime Minster Ehud Barak's government expressed its adherence to some ideas that obstruct the peace process beyond which it hoped to isolate Syria and pressure Damascus to accept the condition of cooperation with Israel. Samir Sarhan, chairman of the Egyptian general organization for books, said that the organization rectified the error that came in the first volume of the child's encyclopedia that said Jerusalem is Israel's capital. Sarhan said the organization immediately stopped selling and distributing the first volume of the encyclopedia, which has 12 volumes, as soon as it found the error and that it withdrew the first copies which were raised in the book fair and immediately took the necessary procedures to correct the error.
