Israel refuses Arab foreign ministers' warnings
Regional-Israel, Politics, 3/13/2000
Israel said yesterday being annoyed from the Arab league statement, which ask the Arab countries to reevaluate their relations with Israel.
Government officials asserted that they feel puzzled by the warnings addressed by the Arab foreign ministers in their meeting in Beirut saying that Israel will be exposed to a war unless its withdrawal from south Lebanon becomes a part of an expanded peace settlement in the Middle East.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said these declarations do not contribute to the atmosphere required for achieving progress in the peace process, and we do not need a consent from our neighbors.
Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy said, "The peace-war double-talk used by certain representatives at the meeting of Arab League Foreign Ministers, calling upon Arab states to reassess their ties with Israel, cast a heavy shadow on their true intentions and attitudes toward the peace process."
He added, "Israel's security and prosperity is founded upon the might of the IDF and the strength and steadfastness of its society, and not on the mercy of the Arab League."
