Turabi attacks constitutional court, expects early presidential elections
Sudan, Politics, 3/11/2000

Hassan Turabi, secretary general of the ruling party in Sudan, launched a strong attack yesterday on the constitutional court and accused it indirectly of being partial to President Omar El-Bashir.

He depicted the verdict issued by the court on the constitutionality of decisions taken by the president in Decmeber that included disolving the Parliament and declaring a state of emergency as expressing juristic ignorance that has been never known in the judiciary.

He accused the court of relying on false premises and contradictions in testimony upon which it issued its verdict saying he has information that President Omar El-Bashir will hold early presidential elections before achieving rapport, which will bring strong parties with which the competition will be serious.
