Two Kurdish factions asked to resume negotiations with the central government in Baghdad
Iraq, Politics, 3/11/2000

Baghdad on Friday called on the two main Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, to resume dialogue with the central authority in Iraq.

The Iraqi daily al-Thawra (the revolution), which represents the views of the ruling Baath Party in Iraq, said it is ripe time for the two Kurdish factions to understand lessons from the situation of the Kurds has become in Turkey and Iran.

However, the central government had withdrawn all representatives of official establishments from the Kurdistan region as from the spring of 1991, following the collapse of talks with the Kurdish parties front.

Iraq's Kurdistan region, which has been out of the control of Iraqi central government since 1991, is under the control of the two competing Kurdistani parties.
