Youssoufi in Santiago
Morocco-Chile, Politics, 3/10/2000

Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi started Thursday a visit to Chile to attend the swearing-in of president Ricardo Lagos in Santiago, the second leg of his Latin-American tour.

Upon arrival, Youssoufi conferred with the secretary general of the Socialist International Luis Avala.

The fact that Youssoufi will be representing King Mohammed VI in Saturday's ceremony is a strong signal and a token of Moroccan determination to consolidate ties with Chile and back its democratization process, said ambassador to Santiago Youssef Amrani.

In a press-meeting, Amrani highlighted the evolution of ever-improving cooperation ties saying the visit will help push forward agreements in agriculture, the protection of investments and cultural cooperation.

The Moroccan premier, who already visited Colombia, will head for Argentina late this week.
