Intellectual ownership conference concludes in Lebanon
Lebanon-Regional, Economics, 3/10/2000
The meetings of the first conference for applying intellectual ownership law and author's rights concluded today in Beirut.
Specialized foreign experts participated in the meetings, which addressed applying this law to combat piracy, in addition to Lebanese judges authorized to apply laws for protecting intellectual ownership and authors' rights.
Such laws were recently ratified by the Lebanese Parliament when the international union of producers of computer software threatened to withdraw from Lebanon after an increase of piracy and when several international computer companies presented complaints of copying and imitation of their products in Lebanon.
This conference was organized by many organizations which are MPA (the Motion Picture Association) and the international English union for producers of music (IFPI) as well as the computers producers' union (BSA).
