Iraqi embassy in Damascus to open within six months
Iraq-Syria, Politics, 3/10/2000
Ghazi Yasin Khodair, head of the Iraqi interests department, expected the opening of an Iraqi embassy in Damascus within six months, saying that the opening of the interest bureau will take place in the coming week (before vacations of the greater Bairam).
Khodair, who is supervising by himself the final touches for preparing this bureau, stated that there are intensive negotiations currently being made with the Syrian Foreign Ministry to open the embassy at the end of September or before end of current year.
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara and Iraqi FM Mohammed Said al-Sahaf agreed in February to exchange opening interests bureaus in Damascus and Baghdad to be turned into embassies soon.
