Burkina faso's president gets message from Morocco's king
Morocco-Burkina Faso, Politics, 3/9/2000
President Blaise Compaore of Burkina Faso on Tuesday got a message from King Mohammed VI.
The message was conveyed by minister in charge of water and forests, Said Chbaatou, at a meeting that discussed bilateral relations and regional issues with a special emphasis on Africa's economic and social development.
President Compaore paid tribute to efforts made by King Mohammed VI to extend assistance to Burkina Faso and voiced resolve to upgrade bilateral cooperation to the aspirations of the two countries which are bound, he said, by firm ties of friendship.
The Moroccan official, on his part, expressed thanks to president Compaore for his country's backing to Moroccan causes.
Chbaatou had earlier visited Guinea and Sierra Leone where he handed similar messages to the two countries' presidents.
Several other Moroccan envoys are touring a number of African countries to deliver to leaders messages from King Mohammed VI.
The messages deal with bilateral cooperation and ways to enhance inter-African cooperation.
The Moroccan envoys' talks with their various African interlocutors covered the candidacy of Moroccan Omar Kabbaj to a second term at the head of the African Development Bank (ADB), and the upcoming Euro-African summit, scheduled in Cairo next April 3-4.
Several African heads of state, including the president of Equatorial Guinea, have expressed hope that Morocco would return the soonest possible to the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and that this issue would be settled during the Euro-African summit, especially as several African states are for Morocco's return to the African fold.
Founder Morocco quit the OAU in the early 80s to protest the illegal admission of the self-proclaimed Sahrawi republic (SADR).
