Russia seeks Arab cooperation in solving Chechnya crisis

Russian diplomatic sources told ArabicNews.com that the visit of Ramadan Abd El-Latifof, minister of state for foreign affairs, to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia and visit of Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov to Egypt aim at achieving Arab - Russian cooperation to solve the Chechnya problem.

He referred to the urgency of the two ministers' visit, adding that Ivanov headed from Lisbon to Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials while Abd El-Latifof was appointed a delegate for Russian President Vladimir Putin and was immediately sent to Saudi Arabia and the UAE where he conveyed a message from Putin concerning the future of bilateral relations and the status quo in the northern Caucasus.

The sources also confirmed that Moscow wants to stop all forms of support that Chechen fighters could obtain from all the Middle Eastern countries.
