Zambian president receives message from Morocco's king
Morocco-Zambia, Politics, 3/8/2000
President of Zambia, Frederick Chiluba, on Tuesday received a message from King Mohammed VI.
The message was conveyed by Minister of Social Development Khalid Alioua at a meeting that discussed bilateral relations and regional issues with a special emphasis on Africa's economic and social development.
The Zambian president voiced resolve to reactivate bilateral relations the soonest possible, a statement by Alioua's department said.
Talks also covered the upcoming Euro-African summit, scheduled in Cairo next April 3-4.
Alioua briefed the Zambian head of state on the latest developments of the Moroccan Sahara issue.
The United Nations is trying to hold a referendum in the Sahara --a Moroccan southern territory that was formerly under Spanish rule and that was retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid accords.
The vote, which will give the people of the Sahara a choice between independence or integration with Morocco, has been repeatedly delayed because of disputes over the voters list.
Several other Moroccan envoys are still touring a number of African countries to deliver messages from King Mohammed VI to these countries' leaders.
The messages deal with bilateral cooperation and ways to enhance inter-African cooperation.
