Report: Disputes between al-Rawabdeh and al-Bateikhi
Jordan, Politics, 3/8/2000

Under the title "Does the honey moon end between al-Rawabdeh and al-Bateikhi," the Jordanian weekly al-Majd said that political observers and journalists in Amman expressed their conviction that competition might have replaced the alliance between the prime minister, Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh, and Lt. Gen. Samih al-Bateikhi, the director of the general intelligence.

One of the observers told the paper that the competition between the two allies surfaced on Tuesday when both al-Rawabdeh and al-Bateikhi were persistent to hold press conferences at the same time in order to win the limelight.

The paper questioned whether differences replaced amity between the two men after Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti's retreat from the political scene.
