Starting moving Hepes Temple in the Egyptian oasis
Egypt, Culture, 3/7/2000
The executive steps started for moving Hepes Temple in Kharga city in the Egyptian area of Wadi El-Gedeed.
This operation is considered the second largest operation for rescuing the Pharonic Egyptian temples after moving Fiyala temple.
Hepes temple gathers the Pharonic, Greek, Persian and Roman ages, therefore it holds historical, tourist and civilizational importance.
This operation will be carried out over 19 months at a cost to reach 19 million LE with the support of many international organizations like UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Hepes temple is suffering from problems of agricultural and constructional progress, as well as the ground water, therefore it will be moved a distance of 300 meters north from the old location to be among the other tourist attractions features like the area of Roman, Greek and Pharonic cemeteries.
