Arab League secretary general on visit to UK
Regional-UK, Politics, 3/7/2000

The deadlocked peace process in the Middle East, the situations in Lebanon, Iraq and Iran will be among the main issues of discussions during the Arab League Secretary General, Esmat Abdul Meguid's visit to the UK, official sources said.

The Arab League chief will meet representatives from a wide spectrum of pro-Arab organizations, ministers and academics during his three-day stay.

The sources said that both Abdul Meguid and the British government agree on the need to revive the peace process on all tracks, including the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese.

The Arab League secretary general begins his official program Tuesday when he will be the guest of honor at a luncheon in central London, hosted by the Arab ambassadors accredited to the UK.

In the evening, he will attend a dinner hosted by the Council for Advancement of Arab-British Understanding (CAABU), in London, according to the official program of the visit released by the Arab League office in Cairo.

On Wednesday, the Arab League Secretary General will travel to Cambridge, southern England, to deliver a lecture on Arab and Middle Eastern issues at Cambridge University.
