Jordanian message of backing to Lebanese president
Lebanon-Jordan, Politics, 3/7/2000
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Monday in Beirut received a message from Jordanian King Abdullah II, which stressed Jordan's backing for Lebanon and its right to resist the Israeli aggression in order to liberate its lands.
The message was conveyed by Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib during his meeting on Monday with President Lahoud.
Lebanese Premier Salim al-Hoss, for his part, received a similar message of support from King Abdullah, voicing Amman's backing for Lebanon and Jordan's preparedness to respond according to what Beirut wants in terms of pan-Arab solidarity with Lebanon. The message was also handed over by al-Khatib.
The Lebanese president, meanwhile, asserted that just and comprehensive peace cannot be made through attempts to undermine the unity of the Syrian- Lebanese position. The Lebanese president stated before his visitors on Monday that the unity of the Syrian- Lebanese position is the main bottleneck for Israel and the blockade which prevents it from singling out any of the two countries into a weak negotiation position.
He signaled the pan-Arab support Lebanon has felt recently, spontaneously backing this joint Syrian-Lebanese stand.
