India stops sending domestic labor to Kuwait
Kuwait-India, Politics, 3/6/2000

The Indian government decided to ban sending Indian laborers who work in homes in Kuwait due to the abuse they receive from the domestic service officers there.

A statement issued by the Indian embassy in Cairo today said the ban took effect this month when the Indian newspapers raised the issue of abuse, referring to the failure of the Indian embassy in Kuwait to put end to this tragedy.

The statement added that the domestic service offices in Kuwait tempt the Indians with high salaries which encourage them to pay large amounts to obtain entry visas, but they are surprised with the actual salaries that do not exceed 30 Kuwaiti dinars per month.
