Afghan warring parties hold talks in Jeddah

Afghan warring parties agreed to start indirect talks this Monday in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) to explore means and ways to reach a lasting peace in Afghanistan, the mission of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) at the United Nations said.
Preparations for the Jeddah meeting were reviewed at a meeting last week between the OIC ad hoc committee for Afghanistan and UN secretary general, Kofi Annan.
Annan was informed on the outcome of the visit by an OIC delegation to Afghanistan and the consultations it had with the leaders of neighboring countries' for a negotiated solution to the Afghan conflict.
The committee invited the UN to send a representative to the Jeddah meeting.
