British parliamentarian to make air flight in solidarity with Iraq
Iraq-International, Politics, 3/6/2000
An Iraqi paper said on Sunday that British Parliamentarian George Galloway will organize next week an air flight from London to Baghdad through the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in solidarity with Iraq.
The Iraqi daily Republic said the air flight will start on Saturday with 200 figures and will stop for a while in the UAE where it will take on 30 figures and then will arrive in Baghdad on March 12.
The Iraqi paper continued that the air flight which carries the name of Mariam Hamzeh, an Iraqi girl who was treated at the initiative of Galloway in Britain in 1997 after she had cancer, will carry passengers of various nationalities bringing with them tons of medicines to the Iraqi people.
The plane will also carry well-known political, media and military figures including the former coordinator of the UN Humanitarian activities in Iraq Denis Halliday, who, since his resignation in 1998, has been organizing a campaign to lift the economic embargo imposed on Iraq.
In October 1999 Galloway organized a land trip in a bus to Baghdad. The trip which was organized under the name of Mariam had lasted for two months.
