Chinese delegation prospects Moroccan market
Morocco-China, Business, 3/4/2000
A Chinese delegation from the municipality of Chongqing Friday wound up a six-day business prospecting visit in Morocco.
The vice-mayor of the municipality and head of the delegation, Wu Jianong, told reporters his delegation conducted a feasibility study to have an accurate idea of opportunities offered by the Moroccan market, mainly in the sectors of transport, industry and trade.
The delegation discussed with Moroccan officials and economic operators means of upgrading trade exchange and promoting the setting up of joint ventures.
The two sides agreed on a number of joint projects in the sectors of the automotive industry, bikes and batteries.
Cooperation in green tea culture and silkworm breeding was also discussed.
Chinese investments are almost absent in Morocco, despite the conclusion in 1995 of an accord on mutual protection and promotion of investments. However, some leading Chinese economic groups are showing a growing interest in Morocco, especially after the exchange of several commercial and economic missions between the two countries.
