Acts of violence in Somalia
Somalia, Local, 3/4/2000

At least four persons were killed on Friday and another 11 wounded, including civilians, in an exchange of gunfire between warring factions in southern Mogadishu.

Eyewitnesses told the AFP that armed men from Mourosad and Suleiman from Haweyah tribe exchanged fire with machine guns and mortars.

One of the witnesses said he saw the killing of two militia members and one civilian during the exchange process and that a gunman died earlier in the day.

Well-informed sources in the region said the confrontations which continued until almost Friday noon erupted following differences over a barrier installed on the road.

These incidents in Mogadishu are increasing at a time when two European delegates said that the international aid might not be offered to the capital if security is not restored to it.

There is no central government in Somalia, which has been witnessing civil war since the collapse of Seyad Berri regime in 1991.
