Report: Saudi Arabia to challenge aggressions against Syria and Lebanon
Saudi Arabia-Regional, Politics, 3/4/2000
A high-ranking Arab diplomat told the Paris-based al-Muharrir news that Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz told the Syrian and Lebanese leaderships that his country will take decisive and sensitive measures if either of the two countries is attacked by Israel.
The source added that Riyadh, which had exerted very important efforts in the last days and hours and who followed up the grave security developments in south Lebanon, considered itself involved, directly, in any threats carried out against Beirut and Damascus.
The diplomat indicated that this position was conveyed to US President Bill Clinton, who, together with his secretary of state, started intensive pressures on the government of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, which had prepared a plan to carry out a large-scale military operation in an attempt to create a military confrontation with Syria.
