Efforts in Yemen to release kidnapped Polish ambassador
Yemen, Politics, 3/4/2000

Yemeni Prime Minister Abdul Karim al-Iryani has asserted on Friday that the authorities are exerting the utmost efforts to ensure the release of the Polish ambassador, Christoph Subrovich, who was kidnapped by one Yemeni tribe on Wednesday.

A Yemeni tribal source told the AFP that the mediation has continued since Thursday, adding that a team of mediators started contacts with the kidnappers in an attempt to convince them to release the Polish ambassador unharmed.

Armed men from al-Qeiri tribe, a branch of the Khoulan tribe, kidnapped the Polish diplomat in an attempt to pressure the authorities to release a detainee from its tribe held by the government.

Yemeni security forces are besieging the Yamaniatein area where the kidnapped Polish ambassador is being held 50 kilometers east of Sanaa. The Yemeni authorities are exerting intensive efforts to free the ambassador safely.
