Masalha says Israeli-Syrian negotiations to be resumed in the second half of this month
Syria-Israel, Politics, 3/4/2000

Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Nawaf Masalha has expressed his conviction that the Syrian- Israeli negotiations will be resumed in the second half of this month.

In an interview with Israel Radio on Friday, Masalha added that it is easier for Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to reach a peace agreement with Syria and Lebanon first and then with the Palestinians because matters debated at the Israeli- Palestinian negotiations are more complex and have constituted the essence of the Arab-Israeli conflict for more than 50 years.

Masalha stated that it will be very difficult for the Israelis to agree this year on "two withdrawals," from the Golan and from the West Bank.

Masalha strongly denounced that attempt made by the Hamas movement to carry out a suicide attack in Israel, asserting that such operations undermine the peace process.
