Thai Muslim food to be upgrade to world standards
Regional-Thailand, Religion, 3/3/2000
The production of Muslim food (Halal food) in Thailand will be upgraded to international standards, a senior Thai public health official told TNA news agency on Thursday.
Narong Chayakul, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), said after presiding over the opening ceremony of a seminar on upgrading the production standard of Thai Halal food that Thai Halal food industry had rapidly grown with increasing demand from consumers, both locally and abroad.
There had been efforts to improve the quality of the food, including the organizing of the seminar to encourage local producers to adopt quality guarantee systems to upgrade their production standard and maintain their market shares and competitiveness in the world market, he said.
The adoption of the widely-recognized GMP and HACCP systems could also help increase export revenues of the country, he noted.
