Government calls for emergency meeting of road-safety commission
Morocco, Politics, 3/3/2000

The government council meeting Thursday called for an emergency meeting of the inter-department road-safety commission to face up alarming increase of accidents.

After a briefing by transport minister, Mustapha Mansouri, on the Ksar-El Kebir accident which killed 35 people, the government said road-safety policy ought to be reviewed and action by the national committee for road-accident prevention reconsidered.

Road-accidents claim 3,000 lives and 60,000 are injured every year, and new legislation on road traffic is soon to be introduced in Parliament.
