Syrian defense minister confers with US military delegation

Syria's deputy commander in chief of the army and armed forces, deputy premier and defense minister, Lt. Gen. Mustafa Tlass, on Thursday in Damascus received the US Air War Academy delegation led by Col. Alfred Jones.

Present at the meeting was the US ambassador in Damascus and the military attache at the embassy.

Tlass expressed Syria's appreciation for the efforts made by the US in the Syrian-Israeli peace talks in Shepherdstown and the personal efforts made by the US President Bill Clinton to this end.

Tlass reviewed the latest developments in the region and stressed Syria's commitment to its national stances supporting unwavering peace as a strategic option.

He answered all questions asked by members of the visiting delegation.
