Former resisters of southern regions reject UN identification results
Morocco, Politics, 3/1/2000

Former resisters and members of the liberation army of the southern provinces denounced the results of the UN identification in the Sahara as irregular and unfair to a large number of persons from the region.

The former resisters and members of the liberation army sent to the UN secretary general a letter saying the results lack credibility as they exclude a large number of individuals who meet the UN criteria to participate in the referendum.

The letter, read out in a ceremony marking the Dcheira battle and the departure of the last foreign soldier from the Sahara, said the identification results were marred by irregularities and injustice against Moroccan Sahrawis who were denied the right to be registered in the voter lists for the UN-projected referendum.

The former resisters and liberation army members also criticized the voter lists which sometimes declared eligible some persons while excluding members of their families and promised that they will spare no effort to restore justice and enable all Moroccan sahrawis to enjoy their right to be included in the voter lists and fulfill their national duty to vote in the referendum.

They called the UN secretary general and the international community to guarantee the registration right to those who were excluded and who suffered from colonization that forced them to take refuge in other Moroccan regions.

After they renewed attachment to their Moroccan nationality and to the kingdom's sacred values and throne, they called the international community to endeavor for the lifting of the siege imposed on their brothers sequestered by the Polisario secessionists.
