Al-Rawabdeh defends his government's performance
Jordan, Politics, 3/1/2000

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh has defended his government's performance despite the shocks it has faced one year after its formation.

He stated that this government has dealt with these shocks silently, in reference to the fact that three ministers have withdrawn from this government, most recently deputy premier and minister of planning Rima Khalaf, who resigned from her post on February 24 because of "personal differences" with al-Rawabdeh.

In his meeting on Tuesday with chief editors of the Jordanian dailies, the Jordanian prime minister added that his government has contributed to "strengthening the internal situation, deepening democracy and continues building of the state's establishments and reforming the national economy."

Al- Rawabdeh criticized accusations addressed by his opposition that he is perpetuating concepts of "mediation and old boy networks," asserting that these accusations aim at creating disputes among the people.

Concerning the Middle East peace process, the Jordanian prime minister asserted that, "Jordan will search for a role rather than that role that the final solution of the Palestinian question will be at his expense," especially in regard to the question of the Palestinian refugees whose number exceeds 1.5 million in Jordan.
