Mubarak, Chiluba Open Talks

President Hosni Mubarak and Zambian President Frederick Chiluba opened talks Monday following the COMESA conference opening session.

"The two Presidents examined issues listed on the COMESA agenda and ways to promote Egyptian-Zambian relations," Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said. "They also addressed African issues of mutual concern, namely the Great Lakes issue that Chiluba is mediating," he added.

"Chiluba invited Egyptian investors to probe with their Zambian counterparts prospects for the establishment of joint ventures in the two countries," he said. "Their talks also examined Zambia's needs of Egyptian expertise, in addition to the numbers of Egyptian experts already serving in the agricultural, educational and energy domains in Zambia," he added.

"They further reviewed ways to back COMESA in the realization of its goals in benefiting its 21 members and also examined the COMESA extraordinary summit that will be held in Lusaka in October," he said.
