King mohammed receives FIFA inspectors
Morocco, Sports, 2/29/2000
King Mohammed VI received Monday here a FIFA delegation that paid a six-day visit to Morocco to inspect the country's sports, roads and telecommunications facilities.
The sovereign was accompanied by his brother, Prince Moulay Rachid, president of the Moroccan National Commission in charge of promoting Morocco's bid to host the 2006 World Cup.
The inspectors visited Morocco's major cities and the stadiums in which Morocco plans to hold the World Cup soccer matches.
Morocco is campaigning against South Africa, Brazil, England and Germany to host the planetary event.
FIFA will choose next July the host country of the competition.
Morocco, a two-time bidder for the honor to host the football World Cup finals-- in 1994 and 1998-- has devised a $560 million plan to build new and modern stadiums, meeting the requirements of the world football governing body.
