Chirac stresses unwavering French policy towards Middle East
Regional-Syria-France, Politics, 2/29/2000
The French presidency has announced that French President Jacques Chirac has stressed the firm and balanced French foreign policy which guides the attitude of the French government towards the Middle East, an attitude which will not be changed.
In a statement circulated by the French embassy in Damascus, the French presidency said that President Chirac stressed this stand during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Lionel Jospin upon Jospin's return from a visit to Israel on Friday evening, the same stand President Chirac expressed in a message he had sent to Jospin last Thursday.
The statement added that doubts in this confidence will inflict damage on French policy and France's credibility to continue working for peace.
