Syrian Foreign Ministry summons French ambassador in Damascus over Jospin's remarks

The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Saturday summoned the French ambassador in Damascus.
Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Siba Nasser told the ambassador about the strong astonishment of the Syrian government at Jospin's statements, which are viewed as encouraging Israel to continue attacking Lebanon and violating the April Understanding's provisions.
Nasser added that Jospin's statements contradict France's official stances and the remarkable Arab- French friendship, and therefore the Syrian Foreign Ministry asks the French ambassador to give official explanations of Jospin's latest statements.
