Efforts to settle conditions between Eritrea, Ethiopia

The representative of the Organization of African Unity, Ahmad Ouyahia, and Tony Leak, the representative of US President Bill Clinton, met on Thursday in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and discussed means of implementing the peace plan proposed by the OAU to eliminate the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
AFP quoted a diplomatic source close to the mediation between Asmara and Addis Ababa as saying that Leak has not proposed an initiative different from Ouyahia's proposed initiative.
However, Ethiopia and Eritrea have exchanged accusations on which side had started the fighting which erupted last Wednesday on Buri front, situated 70 km west of Asab port in Eritrea.
More than one year ago, both Addis Ababa and Asmara agreed on an African peace plan, but Ethiopia continues to refuse certain provisions of this agreement.
