Report: Water and terrorism issues to be discussed between Syria and Turkey
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 2/25/2000
The Turkish daily Millet said on Thursday that Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has agreed that the round of talks which will be held in Damascus at the beginning of March for the first time will address the question of water and the issue of fighting terrorism.
The paper reported that Ankara, which has been for long years refusing discussions on the issue of the waters, has started to reconsider this issue since the expulsion of the leader of the Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan, from Syria in 1998.
The paper quoted Turkish officials as saying that the talks will also discuss the Adanah agreement on fighting terrorism.
