US criticizes Levy

The US on Thursday criticized Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy due to the statements he made before the Israeli Knesset on Wednesday in which he threatened to burn the Lebanese territories if the Lebanese resistance attacks the Israeli occupation forces in south Lebanon.
Reuters quoted the spokesman for the US State Department, James Rubin, as saying that these sort of comments are improper because the US does not want any attitude which might inflame the situation.
Rubin added what the US wants to do is create an atmosphere in which all tensions are eliminated. Such statements make US efforts for peace very difficult to a large extent, he said.
